The continued push for higher density market-rate projects in the City is driving up land values and subsequently making it more difficult to build affordable housing. Using my ‘liaison’ approach, the City can help drive down the cost of building affordable housing in Charleston. Additionally, amending our zoning to provide higher density on properties that are 100% affordable housing will help to further financially incentivize developers to build affordable housing.
